This is Amelmal worku a child with cerebral palsy and Intellectual disability. Amelmal disability causes are unknown and she is now eighteen years old living with her families in lideta sub city, Addis Abeba. Amelmal had home based rehabilitation service/HBR before she joined BL’s ID and vocational training center. She had also physiotherapy service for her mobility problems. Amelmal got daily living skill training, vocational training, physiotherapy service and adaptation toilet cost one thousand eight hundred birr on the first half LF-CBR project implementation period in 2018. Amelmal had improvement in her social life since she is joining trainings with her peer friends in the ID center in BL.

Mussa was born in 2009. He isa smiley and sociable child with club foot, living in Lideta sub city where Berhan Lehetsanat is implementing Community Based Rehabilitation program. He has joined BL Community Based Rehabilitation program when he was a 2 years old child. As that time Mussa was not in a position to walk or speak. His parents was not conscious on the problem created on the child. Based on the agreement reached between Berhan Leahetsnat and health extension workers, the responsible person for the specific kebele refer the child to Berhan Lehetsnat. After conducting the necessary rehabilitation assessment, Mussa was taken to TikurAnbessa Hospital and took a corrective surgery and related services. To facilitate the improvement BL has subsidized the family to cover some of the food items which was necessary for his development. In order to cover the rehabilitation cost BL has allocated 1850 birr. The family members have also provided with the opportunity to organize through saving and credit association. Now the guardian is engaged in retail market and strive to win the bread of the family Currently Mussa has joined school with his age and village mates. The project supported him with scholastic materials including uniform. His self-confidence is boosted and able to enjoy inclusive life in the community and school. Currently Mussa is a grade one student in one of the target schools, Tesfa Kokeb primary school. Parents has also developed positive attitude towards children with disabilities due to the consecutive efforts exerted by the project.

Mussa

Ebenezer is a child with spinal Befida , hydrocephalus and speech problem. He was born in 2015 and joined Berhan LeHitsanat CBR program when he was 2 year old. He took medical services from Zewditu Hospital. Immediately after the examination in the hospital he has started to get physical rehabilitation through physiotherapy section of Berhan Lehetsanat. To follow the physiotherapy service in a regular bases, he was expected to have the necessary bone and muscle strength, on the other hand the family was not in a position to fulfil the nutrition support. To bring the expected improvement for the child with disability, Berhan LeHitsanat has provided him with olive oil and milk for a certain period of time according to the advice of medical doctor. After a certain period, his body became strong and ready to start the physiotherapy service. Gradually continues support from the section and unreserved participation and commitment of the family brought change. Currently he is able to sit by using the corner chair provided by the project. Currently he is able to see the sun by using the adapted chair. The child who was locked behind door enjoyed access to see the world, with the support rendered from the project. Totally, Berhan Lehetsanat has allocated birr 2230 for the rehabilitation service based on the type and severity of disability of the child. The family also confirmed the improvement of the child due to the continuous effort exerted by the CBR program. Mother of the child who was not able to enjoy access to social life before the rehabilitation service is now becoming active. On the other hand, different awareness raising programs were conducted at the home of the child with the objective of creating positive attitude towards person with disabilities in general and children with disabilities in particular. As a result the attitude of the parents of the child with disabilities to accept as equal as any child improving from time to time. The effort on transferring the rehabilitation skill from the CBR worker to parents significantly improved. Currently the parent of the child has acquired basic knowledge on to support their child and able to identify institutions who are ready to assists them in the rehabilitation process.

Fasika Sentayehu is now eighteen years old boy with quadriplegic cerebral palasy, epilepsy and speech problem living with his mother in lideat sub city, Addis Abeba. The disability was caused by lack of oxygen during delivery. Fasika Sentayehu had three days a week physiotherapy treatment service in BL’s center. After medically advised to take milk per day to take his epilepsy medication BL had provided his need through covering milk cost since his parents do not have enough money to serve him. His mother also gets counseling on home based rehabilitation support during his physiotherapy services. Fasika had used two thousand one hundred fourteen birr for his epilepsy case for medical services.
